Making Your Juice Taste Great

Making your juices taste good is easy to do once you get a basic juice formula down that you like. My personal favorite combination for a juice base is apple, lemon, and ginger. The apple sweetens it all up a bit, the lemon really cuts out the bitter taste of the greens, and ginger gives it a delicious little kick. Then I usually add cucumber to dilute the taste a little bit. Cucumbers are so full of water they end up producing a lot of neutral tasting juice.
Great options to add to this base are: celery, carrots, dark leafy greens, parsley or cilantro, bell peppers, squash, cabbage, beets, or any other vegetable or green that looks interesting to you at the store. This is a great way to get all the benefits of juicing in a great tasting elixir!
Of course if you are making a fruit juice, it is easy to make it taste good. It is a good idea to dilute any fruit juice you make with water about 50/50 to cut down on the amount of sugar you are consuming. Since the fiber is juiced out, there is nothing there to slow down the absorption of those sugars into your bloodstream.

I am now running a 24hr Juicing Detox that you can book onto which ever date suits you at the Aghadoe Heights Hotel, Killarney. It also includes Yoga or Pilates clasess if you want more info on the Juicing Detox's, Pilates or Yoga classes please check www.liveyoga.ie or www.aghadoeheights.com Killarney, Co.Kerry.

3 incredible reasons why Pilates helps beat the bloat

1. The Breath

Throughout the class you are instructed on when to breath in an out. When you breath properly you release and stop clenching, this allows you to stimulate your abdominal organs! It keeps the body relaxed and allows for trapped wind to pass. Phew.

2. Ab work

There is A LOT of ab work in Pilates. Their signature “hundreds” actually get the blood flowing around the digestive area, allowing for the food to pass down quickly!

3. It opens you up

IBS sufferers often present with closed front body. This is often due to constantly hunching to hold your stomach, its a protective instinct. In Pilates you always work on strengthening your back and opening you chest! Movements like the Swan allow for passive extension so you can begin to open you chest and stretch your abs!

Below are the details of a really brilliant Yoga weekend that is happening in Cork if any of the Yogis of Killarney are interested in going you can contact myself or The MIYI for booking spaces are limited and are nearly full!!

We are delighted to announce details of MIYI’s next yoga event; a yoga weekend in Cork city with internationally acclaimed guest teacher Corine Biria from Paris on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September.

Corine is a senior Iyengar Yoga teacher with a wealth of knowledge and experience which she imparts with passion, energy and generosity. It is a combination of her love of yoga, her solid grounding in its moral code and her constant emphasis on precision that makes her an excellent and well- respected teacher. She has written a book on the sages in India mythology and has run the Iyengar Yoga Centre of Paris with her husband Faeq since 1984.
The event will be held at the Mardyke Arena on the campus of University College Cork. Yoga classes will be from 10am – 4pm each day including a break for lunch (there is a cafe on the premises).
We are very much looking forward to welcoming Corine to teach her first workshop in Ireland.

Live Yoga is a new Yoga studio to Killarney which teaches in the Iyengar method.  Classes are held weekly in the Muckross Park Hotel and also in Nave Yoga in Killarney. I am a certified Junior 1 Iyengar teacher and I am now training for my Junior 2 examination. Iyengar Yoga has had a profound impact on my life providing me with a system which allows me to explore the body and the breath, it provides a space to become quiet. I am eternally grateful to BKS Iyengar for his teachings.

All Yoga practitioners are invited to hold a quiet approx 30 minute practice to commemorate Sri BKS Iyengar this evening (28/08)  at 8:30pm ~ All are welcome to partake in the practice in their own yoga space or studios. This is as part of the communal dedication practice to the memory of our Guru, B. K. S. Iyengar, as invited by Iyengar Yoga (UK & Ireland)  inviting all Iyengar yoga practitioners in the UK and Ireland to take part.

YOGA

I am a certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher in Galway and approaching the final stages of my pregnancy I decided to blog about how beneficial I have found my Yoga practice to be.

I have Scoliosis since childhood and I believe that without my daily practice my back would have been a lot more problematic.

So this is some info of my pregnancy practice how it has helped me.

Benefits of my Yoga practice:
This has been great for maintaining tone and strength in the legs and arms, when other cardio exercises becomes less viable during pregnancy the standing poses provides great way of maintaining the tone and strength in the body. The 90' turn of the leg is hip opening starting to work into the flexibility of the hips. The lateral extension is excellent for the spine, for creating space in areas that are being compressed by the growing bump and It also maintains strength and flexibility in the spine.

I am not qualified to teach Pregnancy Yoga but I have been able to continue my yoga practice which has been brilliant for my pregnancy
